WI Life

The National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI) publishes its own magazine called WI LIFE. This colourful and informative magazine enables the organisation to communicate directly with its 200,000 members. WI Life features WI-focused articles and news stories, including updates on campaigning activities and training opportunities at the organisation's adult education centre, Denman College. In keeping with the WI eco-friendly philosophy, the magazine is printed on 100 per cent recycled paper, using vegetable, rather than chemical-based, inks. The magazine wrapping is completely biodegradable.

WI Life

The WI offers a wide range of opportunities for life-long learning at

Denman College,

Denman from the air

the WI's own national residential adult education college which is situated at Marcham in Oxfordshire. The college offers approximately 500 short courses each year, which are attended by over 6,000 students. The Oxfordshire Federation and many WIs, offer bursaries in order to give all members the opportunity of attending their college. Denman College is now also open to non-WI members. Most bedrooms at Denman College are named after a Federation, which is responsible for the soft furnishings, redecoration and provision of those "little extras" that make for comfort and serve to recollect the county concerned.

The Oxfordshire bedroom

The Oxfordshire bedroom has been brought up-to-date in 2009, and is pictured above.

Holly

In 2008 Oxfordshire Federation took responsibility for a second bedroom, situated in the newly built Holly Cottage. This 16 bedroom building, pictured on completion in September 2008, has been built on the site of the demolished Holly Cottage which was an old cottage used largely for tutor accommodation, and is adjacent to the existing cottages where OFWI's first bedroom is.

The Oxfordshire Fritillary Bedroom

The new bedrooms have swipe card entry and en suite shower rooms. A small, enthusiastic team has been busy furnishing the Oxfordshire Fritillary bedroom in the colour scheme of turquoise-aqua and cream, which looks very modern and calming. The name Fritillary was chosen after asking members for suggestions and is also the flower that appears on the Federation's logo.

If you book a course at Denman, the staff will try to allocate your own Federation room, where possible. There are gracious two, and even three-bedded rooms in the House if you prefer to share but wherever you are allocated you can be sure it will be a comfortable, well appointed home from home.
